The Framework Challenge Takes its First Steps! Plus: The Dame of Dividends, A Four-Step Framework, and Blue Skies
Happy Sunday, Frameworkers!
I have BIG news! Today I shipped the first Framework Challenge.
If you are new to the newsletter and need to catch up, you can learn more about the Challenge by reading last week's post.
Test Run
This week we will do a test run with a small group of investors. They will go through the 1st challenge and offer feedback so I can make improvements and launch to a larger audience in a few weeks.
For me, this is a big deal. A year ago, I felt like an impostor and didn't think I had much to offer to the investing community, but I've realized a few things since then.
I love studying and learning about business, and I find the art of investing fascinating. Unfortunately, my love and fascination have yet to result in success when it comes to investing. I suspect there are others who may find themselves in a similar situation.
As I realized my need to learn the basics and further educate myself, I couldn't find the tools I needed. While plenty of material is available, it's hard to know where to begin and who to trust.
So, I began curating. I followed investors with successful track records and learned as fast as I could. This was fun, and I've gotten good at distilling the most important pieces of information, but something was missing.
It was like I was drinking water from a fire hose in front of a raging fire, and it never occurred to me to turn the hose in the direction of the fire.
A couple of months ago, that changed. I started to slow down, took the frameworks I had been studying, and began applying them. A week later, I reached out to some friends and challenged them to do the same.
I had a breakthrough! Slowly going through a framework and applying it to a company I am studying taught me more than I could have imagined. On top of that, going through it with others accelerated and encouraged my learning.
I believe The Framework Challenge has a chance to be a valuable tool to help investors speed up their learning curve. This week is the first step in what I think could be a beautiful journey.
Moving forward, this newsletter will not only cover my journey to learn and improve as an investor but will also document the building of The Framework Challenge.
Our Challenge kicks off tomorrow. If you are reading this and want to give it a try, I have two spots left. If you are interested, you can reply to this email, and I can send you the link.
I am planning on resuming my study of GXO 0.00%↑ and will run it through the 25-Question Risk Framework. Next week I'll share the results and let you know how the Challenge turns out.
Before I go …
Here are a few things I learned this week:
My favorite thread of the week:
Geraldine Weiss, "The Grande Dame of Dividends" - Check out this excellent thread from Karl on Geraldine Weiss and see if you can spot the framework she uses to smoke the market.
A Simple Framework:
Bill Mann is one of the smartest investors I know, so I was thrilled when he shared one of his frameworks on the Motley Fool Morning Show last week. I call it simple, but understanding these four areas requires plenty of due diligence. What do you think of his framework? 👇
Just the right time!
When starting something new, it's always good to hear from your favorite optimist. This week, David Gardner appeared on the 1st episode of the Blue Sky podcast.
It's an encouraging conversation that will leave you feeling … optimistic (Go figure). I share a few of my favorite takeaways in the thread below. 👇
That’s a wrap for this week!
If you discover anything interesting in the world of investing frameworks, please send it my way! Happy Investing!
